The Swiss parties are calling for the rapid introduction of a vaccination passport, inspired by the Danish model, to enable a return to normality after the pandemic. The Federal Council is called upon to speed up the creation of a vaccination certificate, while guaranteeing data security and coordination with the cantons.

With the Federal Council set to announce more flexible measures against the coronavirus, political parties in Switzerland are already looking ahead to the post-pandemic period. They are calling for the rapid introduction of a vaccination certificate, similar to the Danish model, to enable a rapid return to normality.
The Danish model, which introduces a “Corona Pass”, enabled the country to reopen restaurants, cinemas and theaters from May 6, with a full return to life as it was before expected by the end of May. The pass, which serves as proof of vaccination or a recent negative PCR test, has become a key element in the recovery.
Many parties in Switzerland, seeing the Danish example, are calling on the Federal Council to act quickly to create a national vaccine passport. However, the Swiss project is still in its infancy. The “mesvaccins.ch” platform had to be discontinued due to data security concerns. The government has yet to announce a solution for an internationally recognized vaccination certificate before the summer.
Political parties from the SVP to the PLR insist on the need to speed up the process. Andrea Gmür-Schönenberger (Centre) and Franz Grüter (SVP) stress the dangers of delay, affecting both the economy and social well-being. On the PLR side, Petra Gössi called for a “viable solution before the summer”.
On the left, however, the SP is more cautious. Mattea Meyer points out that any proof of vaccination or negative test must be unfalsifiable and respect data protection. The SP is also calling for better coordination with the cantons to speed up vaccination.
In short, pressure is mounting in Switzerland to adopt a vaccine passport, a tool that could greatly speed up the return to normalcy. The political parties are now waiting for Berne to take concrete action, while ensuring data protection and coordination with the cantons.
