Blockchain Secures Digital Health Passports: Two Innovative Swiss Solutions Against Covid-19

In Switzerland, two companies are developing digital health passports secured by blockchain technology to combat the spread of Covid-19. Elca's subsidiary, Health n Go, has developed a blockchain-based health certificate, tested with a network of Swiss laboratories. This certificate is stored in a decentralized, tamper-proof manner and can be verified using a QR code. Meanwhile, SICPA, in collaboration with Estonian company Guardtime, has developed a similar solution based on KSI blockchain, ensuring authentication of Covid tests via a secure QR code. These solutions aim to guarantee data security and immutability, but they also raise concerns about privacy and the risks of discrimination. The WHO has expressed doubts about the effectiveness of such health passports and the information they should contain.
