Swiss Alliance for Data-Intensive Services publishes ethical framework for data management

The question of ethical data handling by companies has become a major issue in the era of data management scandals. As organizations seek to become more data-driven, they must also avoid the risks of damaging their image and the trust of their customers and employees.

To help companies address these issues systematically, the Swiss Alliance for Data-Intensive Services has published an ethical framework to guide Swiss organizations. This Code of Ethics for Data Valuation aims to maintain trust between companies and their customers, by favoring self-regulation over strict legislation.

A comprehensive, structured framework

The framework is made up of several documents:

  1. Fundamental principles: This first document presents three essential ethical values: damage prevention, justice and autonomy. It also sets out three procedural dimensions for implementing these principles: control, transparency and accountability.
  2. Practical recommendations: A second document offers detailed advice and concrete examples for applying these principles to the various stages of the data lifecycle: generation, acquisition, storage, management, analysis and use of knowledge.
  3. Implementing ethics: The third document provides guidance on setting up structures and roles dedicated to ethics, and on integrating ethics into data strategy and governance. It also proposes a process for handling ethical issues, from identification to resolution.

Access to the framework

All these documents, together with summary posters, are available on the Swiss Alliance for Data-Intensive Services website, to help companies tackle data-related ethical issues in an organized and responsible way.
